Learning The Hard Way
I started sewing in college when I majored in Textile & Apparel Design. In hindsight, not the best idea since all of my grades depended on my ability to sew!
The courses taught me how to design clothes, drape, and make patterns, but I never took a class that taught me to sew.
There were years of sewing disasters and embarrassingly low grades. Learning to sew was a long process of trial and error…LOTS of errors…and seam ripping!
But one day I realized if I wanted to improve my sewing, I had teach myself. I had to master basic sewing craftsmanship with practice and dedication do doing it right. Even if that meant I had to rip out a seam multiple times!
Now I can sit down and sew commercial patterns and ones I’ve designed myself.
Modern Sewing Problems
“Beginner” sewing books and commercial patterns assume you already know the basics…like how to sew a straight line, use the right needle, and read a pattern. Sometimes there aren’t enough pictures. Sometimes instructions are missing.
No wonder you’re overwhelmed when nothing turns out right.
A Better Way To Sew
I decided to teach creative gals a better, more efficient way to sew. My approach relies on learning the basics FIRST and improving your skills little by little to continue to grow and improve. The Sew Sew Lounge method is inspired by old-school sewing book and tips and tricks learned from my Grandma.
Think of it as a modern Home Ec. sewing class, with techniques updated for the 21st century and no experience needed.
