Rediscover

Your Creative Self

with

Sew Sew Lounge

Hi, I’m Toni. I'll help you reignite your creativity and express your unique style by sewing a me-made wardrobe.

Has life pulled you away from the things (like sewing) that bring you joy? You’re not alone. Between work, family responsibilities, and daily exhaustion, creativity gets pushed to the bottom of the list. I get it, because I’ve been there. Some days, I come home tired, and all I want to do is binge-watch a fashion competition show instead of sitting down at my sewing machine.

Over the years I’ve realized watching other people create is not the same as creating something for yourself. Then when I sit down to sew, I remember why I fell in love with it in the first place—because sewing isn’t just about making clothes. It’s about making time for myself, reconnecting with my creativity, and expressing who I am through the things I wear.

That’s why I created Sew Sew Lounge—a space where you can rediscover your love for sewing, embrace your personal style, and connect with a community that gets it.

There’s no better feeling than getting complimented on your latest make

and saying “Thanks, I made it”.

How I Got Here (And Why I Can Help You)

I’m not one of those people who grew up sewing.

Instead, I learned to sew because I majored in Textile & Apparel Design.  While I learned how to design and make my own patterns, I struggled with construction basics like making sure seams matched and remembering to add facings.

The underlying problem? No one ever taught me how to sew garments together.  I’d never looked at, let alone studied, commercial patterns and I had limited experience using them.

Needless to say, there were plenty of mistakes, seam ripping, and tears of frustration. I called my grandma more than once to help me get projects finished the night before they were due.

Then add the complication of choosing the right fabric for my skill level, instead of the fabric I liked because I was an aspiring fashion designer. Fabric became another element for disaster. Thankfully I was required to take several textile classes as part of the curriculum.  Understanding textiles became my super power–knowing how to choose the perfect fabric for a project made sewing easier, enjoyable, and WAY more successful!

Through trial, error, and persistence, I figured it out. When I go back and look at my college projects I laugh at how poorly they were constructed and how little I knew back then.  Don’t get me wrong, I still make mistakes.  It’s just that now I know how to fix them.

The Fabric Store Changed Everything

When I was young my grandma took me to fabric stores and let me touch whatever I wanted.  Little did I know that was the start of my fabric obsession. While learning to sew in college, I fell in love with fabric all over again—the textures, the colors, and the way fabric choice can create different looks with the same sewing pattern.

When I buy fabric I prefer bright colors and bold prints.  Afterall, life is too short to sew beige. I choose fabrics that excite me and I can’t wait to wear, so I stay motivated to sew.  My fabric stash is large and colorful and gets me through plenty of rainy days.

I always say: buy the fabric that excites you, the one you can't imagine living without—because that love will carry you through the challenges of any sewing project.

Sewing Should Be Fun—Not Overwhelming

I know it’s easy to feel overwhelmed when you don’t have hours to sew. That’s why I break sewing into small, manageable steps.

You don’t have to finish a garment in one sitting, this isn’t Project Runway.  Sewing for just 15 to 30 minutes a day adds up. Cut your fabric one day, stitch the darts on another, sew a couple of seams the next. Before you know it, you’ve got a new garment that’s ready to wear.

These days I primarily use commercial patterns to simplify and speed up the process.  Why?  They are easy to find and regularly go on sale.  Plus who wants to start from scratch EVERYTIME you sew?  Not me.

I prefer classic styles that will last for years to come. When I’m sewing I want to make clothes that express my style, not the latest trends.  If you feel the same way, you’re in the right place.
